6 Tips for Safely Handling Pool Chemicals

tips for handling pool chemicals
Here are some tips for handling pool chemicals safely.

Are you gearing up for the 2022 swimming season at your house? This is an exciting time for so many people as they prepare their backyard oasis for another year of memories. You want to be cautious with the pool chemicals that you will utilize often to keep the pool clean and clear. Goodall Pools is a family-owned and operated company that has decades of experience with pools and the pertinent chemicals they require. Here are 6 tips for safely handling pool chemicals.

Tip 1 – Keep Them Dry

First, pool chemicals need to be kept dry. Although it might seem convenient to store the chemicals near the pool, you can’t risk the chemicals getting wet. Pool chemicals are designed to be added to a large body of water. But a splash of water touching the strongly concentrated chemicals can cause gas and heat to build up and create an adverse reaction.

Tip 2 – Keep Them Well Ventilated

Second, it is important to remember that pool chemicals need to be kept well-ventilated. The fumes emitted from any type of chemical can be toxic. So keeping pool chemicals in an area with good airflow is important.

Tip 3 – Keep Them Cool

Third, temperature control is also something to keep in mind when it comes to storing those pool chemicals. Extreme temperatures are not recommended for the storage of any chemicals. Pool chemicals cannot be left in the sun for any length of time. Keep them away from heat sources as well.

Tip 4 – Keep Them in Their Containers

Fourth, don’t try to mix pool chemicals or move them to different containers. The original containers are purposefully designed to keep the chemicals at their best and to allow them to breathe. And mixing old with new is not recommended for any type of chemicals because of their volatile nature.

Tip 5 – Keep Them Separated

Fifth, you want to keep your pool chemicals stored separately from each other as much as possible. This tip is to help prevent the chemicals from mixing with each other if one inevitably spills. Keep the chlorine separate from the algaecide and so on.

Tip 6 – Keep Them Away from Metal

Finally, on our list of 6 tips for safely handling pool chemicals is this: keep them away from metal. The garage is the go-to storage place for all kinds of items. However, a garage can get very cold or hot, is not well ventilated, and contains important metal items – such as a car. Chemicals can quickly corrode metal. So avoid storing the pool chemicals in the garage. Find a portable, plastic cabinet for the important job of storing your pool chemicals.
