Building a pool is a multifaceted process for both the pool builder and the buyer. That is why, at Goodall, we expect and welcome questions from our clients throughout the process. From the design phase to your first swim, we want you to be well-informed about what is happening when it is happening. Here, we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions pertaining to our pool builds. Equipped with this information, you will have a more thorough understanding of what the process looks like, and our team can proceed with the project more efficiently.

Who is responsible for what during the pool building process?

First and foremost, it is vital to remember that building a pool is a collaborative effort between the pool builder and the homeowners. This means that each party will bear responsibility for certain aspects of the project as it unfolds.

But don’t worry! We have broken down the essential tasks for realizing the final product and organized them in the chart below. Keep this list handy as each stage of the project unfolds, and you will be set for success.

Responsibilities During Pool Production

Goodall Pools & Spas Homeowner
  • Manage and install the project design from start to finish.
  • Clean and balance the pool once every couple of weeks after the water goes in (before owner orientation).
  • Rough Grade Completion (unless otherwise contracted).
  • Keep property free of construction debris.
  • Make sure the pump is running once water is put in.
  • Check skimmer baskets and clean out any debris
  • Leave the clear tub provided at the design layout for crew chiefs.
  • Keep pool water at about mid-skimmer level.
  • Ensure the safety fence remains standing and secure. Call Goodall should any issues arise.
  • Complete the final grade (i.e., reseed grass and finish landscaping unless otherwise contracted).

How should I prepare for the pool project?

If you have other subcontractors working on the project, inform them of our start date. If they want to meet with us or discuss anything at all, have them reach out to your project manager. Be aware that a pool build is a major construction project. As a result, your yard will be very disrupted for a period of time. We do our best not to damage more than necessary to install everything, but you should still expect disturbances to the environment.

How should I make payments on the project?

You will be expected to have checks/payments available for pick-up as described in the terms of your contract.

What are the building crew’s working hours?

Depending on the location, our crews typically arrive between 8 AM and 9 AM. They work until they arrive at a suitable stopping point for the day (generally between 3 PM and 4 PM). Schedules may vary depending on the weather conditions.

Do I need to be home while building crews are working?

You do not need to be home every day our crews are onsite. There are, however, some procedures for which we will need you to be home. We will make you aware of these dates well in advance as we approach them in the project timeline. The most common instances during which we may need you to be home are the day the project begins and the day our electrician comes.

If we need to contact you for any reason, either your salesman or the project manager will reach out via phone, email, or text message.

How do I know when my pool is complete?

Goodall Pools & Spas will only ask for a final balance when the job is substantially completed. We may have a few minor punch list items left to address. When we ask for final payment, we also ask you to inform us of any work you feel is incomplete or not satisfactory. We will then work to resolve any such items.

Goodall Pools just replaced the liner in my inground pool and installed a new LED light and controller. They did a great job. The pool looks great and the new LED light is interesting with many different colors and "light shows.” I'm very happy with the service from Goodall Pools.

Knowledgeable, friendly staff and technicians who deliver amazing customer service. As a new home and pool owner, I was overwhelmed when I took the cover off for the first time this season and found a pool that literally looked like a swamp. Bob Goodall and his army of pool experts took my pool from a murky green nightmare to crystal clear, beautiful water in no time. I can’t thank them enough!

Always responsive and professional. Helped us renovate a 20-year old pool and taught us the ropes on what to keep my eye on with our various pool components through their excellent Gold Member service. They keep the pool clean and sparkling blue. We’ve enjoyed interacting with every person we’ve met there from the owners onwards. Truly a unique and solidly family owned business that we need more of. Thank you!

Janet Turner

Designed and installed a resort-feel beautiful pool with lots of features. We absolutely love it. The store employees are wonderful about testing our pool water (no matter how many times I take samples in) and explaining the computer printout that tells me exactly how much of each chemical my pool needs. I highly recommend Goodall Pools!

Amber Wilson

Since we are new to the hot tub experience, we had a lot of questions and concerns. Adam at Goodall Pools/Spas was most professional and extremely patient making sure we understood the process of maintaining our hot tub.
