While Fiberglass pools require less time to install than their vinyl-lined counterparts, they are just as impressive and functional. These pools come prefabricated from our partnering fiberglass pool manufacturer, Latham. Whatever model you choose, you will have a beautiful, long-lasting pool that will surely be the centerpiece of your backyard.

General Construction Process for a Fiberglass Pool

On average, a fiberglass pool takes between 3 and 4 weeks to build. Below, we have outlined the general construction processes to create this type of pool.

Phase 3: Construction - Fiberglass Pool

Excavation

Excavation involves digging a large hole in the ground, smoothing the bottom until it is level, and preparing the hole for the installation of the pool structure.

Stone Bottom

To create a smooth and level surface, the process of laying a stone bottom involves pouring a concrete footing and spreading a layer of crushed stone that is then compacted.

Unload and Set Pool

To install a fiberglass pool, we lift the entire pool structure off of a large, flatbed truck using a crane and set it into the excavated space.

Plumbing/Lighting

Once the pool is set, we connect its plumbing and lighting systems.

Backfill and Fill With Water at the Same Time

Next, we backfill the pool which involves filling up the outside of the pool walls or hardscape walls with soil or gravel. In the case of a fiberglass pool, we fill it with water as it is being backfilled to prevent the pool shell from lifting out of the ground due to the pressure of the surrounding soil.

Rough Grade

Completing a rough grade means that the pool is installed and the surrounding earth is leveled and smoothed. At this point, the ground has not grown grass back yet.

Set Equipment Pad and Equipment

Once the rough grade is completed, we set the equipment pad (i.e., the concrete surface upon which the main pool equipment will reside) and install the essential pool equipment including the pool pump and filter.

Electric Work

Electrical wiring and bonding are necessary to verify that the electrical current is running safely and correctly. This step also confirms that the pool equipment is functioning properly.

Phase 3: Construction - Fiberglass Pool

Stone Where Patio is Going

We insert stone into the foundational space where the patio and pool deck will sit.

Form/Rebar/Bonding of Concrete

In order to prepare and reinforce the concrete base for the pool deck and patio, we first form, rebar, and/or bond the concrete before pouring and smoothing it out.

Fencing

According to Pennsylvania Zoning guidelines for inground pools, we build a fence measuring at least 48 inches high where necessary.

Landscaping

The look of the pool environment is complete with the addition of elements that enhance the surrounding landscape.

Orientation

Goodall staff teaches you to operate and maintain your fiberglass pool properly once the structural elements are in place.

Sundek Overlay

We can apply a Sundek overlay, adding colors and textures to the concrete surfaces, approximately 30 days after the concrete is poured.

Fiberglass Pool Structure Tip: The Site Tube

The site tube is an 8-inch piece of PVC pipe sitting below the base of a fiberglass pool. This allows you to see if there is any water collecting underneath the pool shell. If so, you can drop a sump pump into the piping to remove any water underneath the pool. This is most commonly the case when there is any major work being done to the pool.

Goodall Pools just replaced the liner in my inground pool and installed a new LED light and controller. They did a great job. The pool looks great and the new LED light is interesting with many different colors and "light shows.” I'm very happy with the service from Goodall Pools.

Knowledgeable, friendly staff and technicians who deliver amazing customer service. As a new home and pool owner, I was overwhelmed when I took the cover off for the first time this season and found a pool that literally looked like a swamp. Bob Goodall and his army of pool experts took my pool from a murky green nightmare to crystal clear, beautiful water in no time. I can’t thank them enough!

Brad Boyer

I have used Goodall Pools many times over the years. I have always found them to be very responsive and professional each and every time. I highly recommend them for any pool need.

Always responsive and professional. Helped us renovate a 20-year old pool and taught us the ropes on what to keep my eye on with our various pool components through their excellent Gold Member service. They keep the pool clean and sparkling blue. We’ve enjoyed interacting with every person we’ve met there from the owners onwards. Truly a unique and solidly family owned business that we need more of. Thank you!

Janet Turner

Designed and installed a resort-feel beautiful pool with lots of features. We absolutely love it. The store employees are wonderful about testing our pool water (no matter how many times I take samples in) and explaining the computer printout that tells me exactly how much of each chemical my pool needs. I highly recommend Goodall Pools!
