There’s nothing like pampering yourself with a relaxing day at the spa! So why not bring the spa to you instead with a DIY at-home spa day? In this article, we’ll guide you through six easy steps to creating your you perfect spa day at home! Read on to find out more.
Step 1: Spa Supplies
When it comes to spa favorites, everyone has their preferences. If music is your thing, make sure to cue up a calming playlist. Some other items to include would be a comfy robe, towels, slippers, and aromatherapy candles (or an essential oil diffuser if you have one) to create a relaxing environment. You can also bring your favorite snacks or drinks too; we recommend keeping some lemon and cucumber water handy to stay hydrated.
Step 2: Face Mask
Face masks are a great way to improve the look and overall health of your skin. Starting your home spa routine with a face mask will ensure that you get the “dirty work” of applying it out of the way so that you can continue in your routine while the mask dries. You can purchase face masks at your favourite beauty and cosmetics store, or you can make your own using a few common household ingredients.
Step 3: Soak in the spa
With your face mask still on, step into your spa or swim spa, being careful not to submerge yourself beyond your shoulders. We recommend soaking anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes to allow your muscles and joints to relax in the warm water and maximize the rejuvenating effects of a hydrotherapeutic massage, courtesy of your spa’s jets. If you don’t have a spa, running yourself a nice warm bath will do the trick! After the suggested time on your face mask’s instructions has elapsed, remove the mask with a warm cloth or towel.
Step 4: Manicures and Pedicures
After your soak, remove any existing polish on your nails and pick out new polishes for your fingers and toes. Start by trimming your nails and pushing back your cuticles to the base of your nail beds. Next, apply your polish in as many coats as it takes to completely cover your nail (usually between 2-3 depending on the color and brand). Use a top coat to seal your nails and then sit back and relax for a few minutes while they dry.
Step 5: Sauna Session
Being careful of your newly painted nails, it’s time for a sauna session! The heat and steam of a sauna help to open your pores to cleanse your skin, ease aches and pains, reduce stress and even improve cardiovascular health. We recommend spending 10-20 minutes in the sauna to maximize the effects. Of course, it’s always advisable to speak to your doctor prior to entering a sauna to ensure it won’t interfere with your health.
Step 6: Cool Shower
Once your sauna session is complete and your nails are completely dry, pop in the shower with the water set to cool, or cold if you dare! Immersing yourself in cool water after being in the sauna will close your pores and help boost blood circulation to your major organs while giving your body a good scrub to really cleanse your skin. It also has a reinvigorating effect that will help you to tackle the rest of your day with newfound energy.
