Vinyl Liner Replacement

Goodall Pools & Spas is renowned for providing custom pools and pool renovations that are tailored to meet your specific needs. Whether you are looking for a simple upgrade or an extensive renovation, our team can help you achieve the pool of your dreams with no limits on creativity.

One of the most practical places to begin your backyard transformation is with your vinyl pool liner.

Vinyl liners last, on average, 10 to 15 years provided the pool owner applies proper care and maintenance throughout the liner’s lifetime.

Replacing a pool's vinyl liner at the appropriate time is important for several reasons. Firstly, the liner, if overused or improperly maintained, can become brittle, fade, and may develop tears or leaks, which can cause structural damage to the pool. A damaged liner can also cause chemicals to leak out of the pool, resulting in an unbalanced pool and potential harm to swimmers. Secondly, an old and worn liner can also affect the pool's aesthetic appeal, making it look outdated and uninviting.

If your liner is more than 10 to 15 years old, it may be time to consider a replacement even if there are no visible signs of damage or wear. We recommend having one of our professionals inspect the liner and provide guidance on when it should be replaced to ensure the safety and longevity of the pool.

There are more obvious signs that your liner may need to be replaced which, hopefully, your maintenance practices will help avoid. If you notice tears or leaks in your liner, you should replace it as soon as possible. Further delay can cause water loss and potentially damage the pool structure. Fading or discoloration of the liner can also indicate its age and wear, as well as the growth of algae and other organisms that are difficult to remove. A wrinkled or sagging liner is another sign that the liner has reached the end of its lifespan and needs replacement.

Our renovation technicians at Goodall are seasoned veterans when it comes to vinyl liner replacements, or what we call “liner flips.” The process takes place over 1 to 5 days. Basic liner replacements are usually completed within a week.

Here’s how the liner replacement process often works.

Day 1: We start by draining the pool and removing the old liner.

The Following Days: After removing the old liner, we will then do minor bottom repair, replace the wall foam if necessary, install the new liner, and replace the gaskets, screws and faceplates for your skimmers and returns. At this point, the pool will be refilled with water.
