What is the Difference Between a Hot Tub and a Spa, and Why do I Need One?

Spas

People often ask, “What is the Difference between a Hot Tub and Spa?”  The answer is easy; a hot tub and spa are the same thing.  There is no difference.  At Goodall Pools, we find there are several reasons people want to purchase a hot tub or a spa.

Reasons for Buying a Hot Tub/Spa: The Three “Rs”

Through the years, we have found three main reasons people want to buy a hot tub: recovery/repair, relaxation and reconnection.  Hydrotherapy works well for all three.

  • Recovery/Repair.  Hydrotherapy helps you recover from some medical ailments, particularly those involving muscles that are sore from exercise, or routine repetitive motion.  It helps repair damaged muscles and other tissues.
  • Relaxation.  People today have very busy lives.  They are “plugged in” all day to their electronic devices.  To come home at the end of the workday and head for the spa is a great relaxation tool.  You can “unplug” from the world.  Since most electronic devices are not waterproof or do not work well underwater, you cannot use them in the hot tub.  As a result, you can truly relax in a quiet and comfortable environment.  Using a hot tub before bed can also provide a better night’s sleep.
  • Reconnect.  Sitting together in a hot tub often helps couples and families reconnect at the end of their busy days.  You leave the world outside of the hot tub and can relax together.  We’ve heard many customers say that some of their best conversations with spouses and children happen when they are together in their spa.

Changing Trends in Hot Tub Purchases

A few years ago, it seemed that people would come into our showroom and just want an inexpensive hot tub.  Today customers are more discerning and look for quality.  Customers want lower maintenance, good filtration, and a spa that will last.

There are more than 200 hot tub manufacturers, so selecting a spa can be confusing to consumers.  One of the best ways to get started is to come into one of our showrooms and talk to one of our spa professionals.  We work with you to assure that the spa you buy will meet all your needs.

If you are thinking about buying a spa or a hot tub, contact us at Goodall Pools for expert advice from Central Pennsylvania’s leader in spas and hot tubs.
