Swimming Pool Party Maintenance: What to Do?

After the swimming, splashing, and all-around fun is over, it’s crucial to take steps to maintain your swimming pool. Otherwise, your pool may become more of an environmental hazard than the scene of the party. Here, we discuss some of the essential steps you need to take to ensure your swimming pool remains healthy, functional, and party-ready.

Clean the Swimming Pool Area

The first thing to do is to clean up the pool area. This involves picking up any litter, emptying trash cans, and sweeping the area. If you have outdoor furniture, make sure to clean it as well. Use a mild detergent and a sponge to clean chairs and tables. If your pool area is equipped with a grill, make sure to clean it too. It’s essential to clean up any spills and food particles to prevent bacteria from forming.

Remember, what surrounds your pool can make its way into your pool. If you skip cleaning the party spills, the grime and bacteria that grow from them will hitch a ride on your swimmers at a later date and end up (you guessed it) in your pool.

Remove Debris from the Pool

During a pool party, it’s not uncommon for debris like leaves, bugs, and other debris to accumulate in the pool. You must remove any debris from the pool to prevent it from clogging the pool’s filtration system. Use a leaf skimmer to remove fallen debris from the surface of the water. You can also use a pool vacuum to clean the bottom of the pool.

Check the Chemical Levels

One of the most important steps in maintaining a swimming pool is checking the chemical levels. Chemicals like pH balancers are necessary to keep the water clean and clear. After a pool party, the chemical levels may be off. Therefore, you should test the water to make sure the levels are within the recommended range. You can use a pool testing kit for this step. Then, add chemicals as needed to bring the levels back to normal.

Run the Filter System

After a pool party, it’s crucial to run the pool’s filtration system for at least eight hours. This ensures that the water is circulated and filtered properly. The filter system helps to remove any impurities from the water, including bacteria and other contaminants. Running the filtration system also helps to distribute the chemicals evenly throughout the pool.

Shock the Swimming Pool

Another critical step in maintaining a pool after a party is shocking the pool. This involves adding a generous dose of chlorine to the water, killing any bacteria and other microorganisms that may have accumulated during the party. Shocking the pool also helps to restore the chemical balance of the water. You should shock the pool at least once a week, especially during the summer months when the pool is used more frequently.

Maintain the Water Level

Between all the splashing and swimming, the water level in your pool can drop significantly during a pool party. It’s important to maintain the water level to ensure the pool is functioning correctly. You can add supplemental water to the pool using a garden hose until the water level is within the recommended range. The water level should be at least halfway up the skimmer to ensure proper filtration.
